Plastic Funeral
Designing a Ritual Experience for Non-human
'Plastic Funeral: Ritual Experience' allows humans to empathize with plastic as a spiritual object and raise awareness of using plastic products. The complicated processes and colourful objects made of recycled plastic help humans understand death deeply, building new relationships between humans and plastic.

Instructions
1. Take the label off your plastic product and place her/him facing east.
- East is the direction of the sunrise, which simbolizes life. It means reincarnation and revival in death rituals.
2. Check the death of the plastic and open the cap to let the soul inside go.
- In a primitive belief, soul escapes through the holes in the body.
3. Swing the label facing north, and call the name of your plastic product three times.
- The soul stays in the clothes of the dead, so this process helps the body to go well to the underworld.
4. Put the cap and the label in the pouch.
- The soul-substance should be preserved in funeral containers. They are necessary for the reincarnation of the body in the future.
5. Clean and crush your plastic product, and then place him/her south.
- Washing ritual purifies bodies, extinguishes sins, and prevents the body and mind from collapsing. South symbolizes fire, which symbolizes full of energy.
6. Put your dead plastic and the pouch in the coffin together.
- Big Dipper plate has seven holes in the wooden board. It serves as a guide of navigation to the traveler.
7. Write the name of your plastic product and details of her/him on the white paper, and put it in to the spirit tablet.
- A spirit tablet with the name and status of the dead is a place for the soul to rely on, which symbolizes the object of this funeral ritual.
8. On the red paper, write the type of your plastic product(PET, HDPE, PVC, LDPE, PP, PS), his/her reincarnation process, and your last words to her/him.
- Myeongjeong is a long flag used to honor and respect the dead. It's usually placed on a coffin, and during a procession, it clearly informs the identity in front of the bier and guides the way.
9. Put the coffin into the carriage, attach the red paper to the carriage, and pray for his/her death and reincarnation.
